Best of all was walking through the fields from Moreton-on-Marsh; first south then west, passing along some lovely old hedgerows and past ancient farm houses before looking across the fence at the lowest, most easterly portion of Sizincote and then walking through Moreton-on-the-Hill to get to Bourton House. My favourite parts were the white garden and the raised borders across the lawn overlooking the fields, where there was a most wonderfully scented deep maroon rose - an Austin?? - that I still lust after...
All the best for India
JackAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-453240984293111218.post-76919329586952723792010-07-25T07:51:06.298+01:002010-07-25T07:51:06.298+01:00Hi Charlotte, lovely photos, there is always somet...Hi Charlotte, lovely photos, there is always something soothing about knot gardens and topiary, despite all the hard work it involves...this looks like a good garden to relax in....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-453240984293111218.post-48514394352962649642010-07-24T16:49:44.219+01:002010-07-24T16:49:44.219+01:00Gorgeous! It would have been a great shame if this garden were no longer open to the public. So glad the new owners retained the head gardener, and will keep the gardens available for public viewing.Curbstone Valley Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06714297348566721344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-453240984293111218.post-26439666156140453452010-07-24T10:50:09.500+01:002010-07-24T10:50:09.500+01:00Dear Charlotte, I was, of course, delighted to see...Dear Charlotte, I was, of course, delighted to see that you had written of the gardens at Bourton House now, as you say, under new ownership. They are, indeed, well worth a vist and it is a great happiness that they will, for the time being, continue to be open. Monique and Richard Paice, the previous owners, are great friends of mine. In late August of last year they threw a wonderful party which not only celebrated their 25 years [not 35] at Bourton House, during which time they transformed the garden, but also used the occasion as a farewell to a quarter of a century's remarkable achievement in the world of horticulture.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-453240984293111218.post-75354825381538075252010-07-24T10:09:42.173+01:002010-07-24T10:09:42.173+01:00Magnificent knot garden and I love the neatly clip...Magnificent knot garden and I love the neatly clipped topiaries.
